Hướng dẫn Cách để Viết Bài luận

 Nghiên cứu đề tài. Tìm hiểu qua mạng, tra cứu thư viện hay tìm kiếm cơ sở dữ liệu học thuật hoặc đọc báo. Bạn cũng có thể tham khảo gợi ý của nhân viên thư viện.

• Xác định những nguồn tham khảo được giáo viên của bạn chấp nhận.
  • Giáo viên của bạn có quy định một số nguồn tham khảo chính và nguồn tham khảo thứ cấp nhất định?
  • Có thể sử dụng Wikipedia hay không? Wikipedia thường là điểm xuất phát tốt để tìm hiểu về một đề tài. Tuy vậy, nhiều giáo viên không chấp nhận trích dẫn từ nguồn này bởi họ muốn những nguồn tham khảo chính thống hơn.
• Ghi chép một cách chi tiết, đảm bảo rằng bạn có thể xác định nguồn của thông tin được ghi nhận. Thể hiện nguồn tham khảo ở định dạng trích dẫn chính xác, nhờ đó bạn sẽ không cần quay lại và tìm chúng lần nữa.
• Đừng bao giờ bỏ qua những thông tin và ý kiến có vẻ đi ngược với ý tưởng hay luận điểm ban đầu của bạn. Một người viết luận tốt hoặc sẽ đề cập đến những luận chứng trái ngược và chỉ ra được sai lầm trong các luận chứng đó, hoặc sẽ biết điều chỉnh cách nhìn nhận của bản thân nếu những luận chứng trên là chính xác.

Phân tích những bài luận xuất sắc. Trong quá trình nghiên cứu, có thể bạn sẽ tìm được những bài viết tốt (và cả những bài không thật sự tốt) về đề tài của bạn. Hãy phân tích để thấy được điều gì mang lại thành công cho chúng.

• Luận điểm của tác giả là gì?
  • Nhờ đâu chúng xuất sắc? Có phải là nhờ sự chặt chẽ, nguồn tham khảo, cách viết, kết cấu? Còn yếu tố nào khác nữa hay không?
• Tác giả đã sử dụng luận chứng nào?
  • Nhờ đâu luận chứng của tác giả lại tốt đến vậy? Tác giả đã trình bày các cơ sở lập luận như thế nào và cách tác giả tạo nên câu chuyện với những cơ sở này là gì?
• Lập luận là hợp lý hay khiên cưỡng và tại sao?
• Nhờ đâu lập luận hợp lý? Tác giả có dùng ví dụ minh họa để hỗ trợ lập luận của mình hay không?
